What are protein domains and motifs?
Protein domains and motifs are conserved peptide sequences in proteins that usually have a specific function. By cataloging these sequences, one can usually determine the function of an unknown protein if it contains known domain regions.
Are there any important domains in the collagen alpha-1 (V) chain?

Analysis
The protein sequence is conserved amongst most different organisms. They all contain the collagen triple helix repeat (besides the Dog, but it is the predicted protein and is much smaller that the rest), which is a staple of collagen genes. The COLFI is found at the C terminus of fibrillar collagen and the exact function of this domain is unknown. They all have the laminin domain, which binds to laminin and is important to extracellular structure and support. This makes sense given their function as a structural protein.
