What is a CRISPR?
CRISPRs (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) are a tool that can be used to knockout or alter gene expression and function. The video below explains the history and mechanism of this tool very well.
Can they be applied to the study of COL5A1?
There are some "questionable" CRISPRs according to CRISPR Finder that could possible be used to see if the region in the 3' UTR plays a role in transcription of COL5A1. More research has to be done to see if these existing CRISPRs will target the area containing the specific SNP.
